Our recent photowalk at Swayambhunath brought together a wonderfully diverse group of photography enthusiasts to explore one of Kathmandu’s most iconic cultural and spiritual landmarks.

Participants ranged from a sixth grader just beginning their photography journey to retired individuals rediscovering their creative passion. The group also included Nepali and international participants, professional photographers as well as beginners — all united by a shared curiosity for photography and visual storytelling.

Adding another exciting dimension to the walk, participants had the opportunity to explore different camera systems thanks to the support of Nikon Nepal, who brought a selection of Nikon mirrorless cameras for photographers to borrow and try during the photowalk. Cameras available included the Nikon Z6II, Nikon Z5II, Nikon Z50II, and Nikon Z30, giving participants a chance to experiment with new tools while capturing the vibrant scenes around Swayambhunath.

As we walked through the vibrant surroundings of Swayambhu, photographers explored a variety of subjects: devotional rituals, architectural details, sweeping views of the valley, playful monkeys, colorful prayer flags, and the everyday life that unfolds around this historic site. The morning light, the movement of pilgrims, and the unique atmosphere of the hilltop temple provided endless inspiration.

Following the walk, participants gathered for a discussion session where thoughtful questions and engaging conversations added another dimension to the experience. Many newcomers expressed how valuable the learning environment was, highlighting how photowalks create opportunities not only to capture images but also to exchange ideas, techniques, and perspectives.

This featured gallery presents a selection of photographs from the walk, showcasing the different ways participants interpreted the scenes around them. Each image reflects a personal perspective and a moment of connection with the place and the people encountered during the walk.

We thank everyone who joined us and contributed to the lively and inclusive spirit of the day. It is this diversity of people and perspectives that makes every PhotoWalk Nepal gathering a unique and enriching experience.
